Work Boots: Top tips for protecting your work boots

Do you want to extend the life span of your safety shoes? Follow these 6 tips and take a step in the right direction!

1. Treat your shoes before the first use

When you have a new pair of shoes, you obviously want to start wearing them as soon as possible. However by treating them first in 3 steps, you will be able to wear them a lot longer.

  • Step 1: Brush your safety shoes with a shoe brush.
  • Step 2: Polish them with shoe polish.
  • Step 3: Apply a spray or cream to make them waterproof.

2. Never wash your safety shoes in the washing machine

Otherwise the leather will shrink and dry out. The insole can be put in the washing machine (40°), but not in the tumble dryer. The outside parts of your shoe are best cleaned with a damp cloth and a mild soap.-> PRO TIP: Use an old toothbrush to clean the grooves in the outsole of your shoes.

3. Use leather grease

Especially during the winter months when your shoes are often exposed to snow and mud. If you apply leather grease, your shoes will not only last longer but also stay supple and waterproof.

4. Wipe off your wet shoes with a damp cloth

Afterwards let them dry at room temperature. If your safety shoes dry too fast, there’s a risk that the leather will dry out and crack.

5. Protect the heel

Always use a shoehorn to put your shoes on. Always untie the laces and loosen the straps before removing your shoes.

6. Use your safety shoes regularly

When frequently used the rubber outsole will stiffen, crack or crumble less quickly. Did you know that you best store your shoes away from direct sunlight and in a room where the temperature does not fluctuate? Is it time for new shoes anyway? Check out our collection of safety shoes.
